Now more than ever, it is vital to raise awareness around the importance of taking steps to look after our mental health and wellbeing. With this year’s theme ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority’ in mind, we can all play a part in creating a world where mental health is cared for and prioritised across all aspects of our lives.

For World Mental Health Day this year, we gained some valuable insight from the Two Stories team by asking ‘How do you look after your mental health?’. Here’s what they said…

Stacey:

“I always try to prioritise sleep as it makes me feel more positive and able to cope with whatever comes my way. Reading a book before bed helps me to relax and declutters my mind ready for a good night’s sleep.”

Lauren:

“I take time away from my phone and social media to just be present. Nobody should ever feel worried about reaching out to friends and family at times when you feel like you need more support than usual.”

Bekkie:

“I find joy in the little things and prioritise those when I need to, whether on my own or with the people I love. The biggest mood lifter is laughter – genuine, unforced, wholesome laughter!”

Lara:

“The gym is my happy place. A workout always leaves me feeling positive and ready to take on the rest of my day. Every day is different, and I’ve learnt it’s important to be able to accept however you feel. Feelings are always valid.”

Rob:

“Watching Morecambe FC with my dad and friends gives me true joy each week. It’s important to remember that we’re all human; we’re not designed to be on the go 24 hours a day.”

Ryan:

“I focus on the simple things that make my day that little bit better, like having a cup of tea or going for a walk. Tabletop role-playing games are my escape!”

Bridget:

“When I need to clear my head, getting out for a walk is my go-to. I focus on being in the moment and enjoying what’s going on around me. Nature, fresh air, and my dog all bring me happiness!”

Emma:

“It’s important to step back sometimes and give yourself time to reset. For me, that might mean deleting social media for a few days, lighting a candle and watching my favourite series for the hundredth time, or getting out in nature with friends and family.”

We encourage everyone to take a moment today to reflect on how you take care of your mental health. Why not share your thoughts with a friend, family member, or colleague?
